Advice from the locals...
Winter fishing is good around Grand Cay. Yellowtail Snapper are here year round, and as the ocean cools other fish return to the shallow water and that makes for fun. Nice size grouper and the rest of the snapper family move back into the 50ft mark. Put out your chum bag, bait the hooks, and start fishin'.

If you can get your hands on some conch scraps, that's the best. If not, squid would your next choice. You can fish the in or out going tides. As long as the water is moving, the fish should be biting.

Newcomers should get a local guide to help navigate the waters for three reasons: one - to navigate the local waters. Two - a guide can take you to the best spots; their knowledge of the area will take a lot of the guess work out of fishing. Three - if you've got kids...it's priceless. Kids have a lot of fun, but they can wear you out baiting hooks and tying on new rigs - been there, done that. A guide can help make the day as simple and fun as possible for everyone aboard.

If you're going to go it alone, head East or West - it won't make a difference, the fishing is great. Work your way towards the reef, looking for the coral heads with grass around them, determine the tide, anchor up, put the chum bag overboard and start fishin'.
